Amy Goodwin has an extensive background in portrait
photography. She began doing portrait photography about eleven years ago, and
has been doing professional photography for the last seven years. This interest
began through Amy’s first job as a teenager, where she worked in a photo lab/
portrait studio. Through this position, Amy learned the basics of photography.
In developing beyond the basics to her own style, Amy prefers capturing the most
natural images possible. “The best way for me to get natural images is to make
the person being photographed feel as comfortable as possible.” Amy
accomplishes this through making the session casual and laid back. She tries to
avoid placing people in uncomfortable poses. She also talks to them about what
they would like to see from the session. During the session, Amy shares some of
the photos captured on the digital camera to let them see how the session is
going. Amy states that this is important to her because, “The customer(s)
usually likes that because they can see if they might look too tense or have
their “fake” smile on.”
In addition to portrait photography, Amy enjoys street
photography. What is the difference? Well, portrait photography allows the
photographer and subjects to interact. This allows Amy to show her ability to
pose and arrange subjects, as well as use props to enhance a portrait. Street
photography, on the other hand, is photographing when the subject has no idea
they are being photographed. This allows Amy to capture more candid shots. Both
styles support Amy’s passion of capturing memories for others. Amy’s
reason for supporting the Why Pink campaign is pretty simple. She wants to
raise awareness, letting men and women know what resources are available.
Contributing to charities is very important to her, but creating the Why Pink
campaign is something she is proud of. She and her husband are excited for
all the events they have planned in October and most importantly raising
awareness throughout the community.
